The edition Twelve small churches in Athens, published by Logotypo with the support of The J. F. Costopoulos Foundation, aspires to take readers on a journey around old Athens, along the paths of faith and beyond.
To this end, it begins with insights borrowed from fields such as architecture, history, literature and folklore. Then the anonymous explorer of the city performs twelve experiential “walks” to an equal number of Athenian churches (usually very small). Thus, he leads the readers to neighbourhoods of old times. He walks into sunless lanes and alleys, browses yellowed newspaper pages, studies lithographs and maps. He collects a rich photographic material from today, capturing moments and discovering the change of the urban landscape over time and the spread of the Capital around the Acropolis. He records Athenian stories and sacred traditions and listens to beliefs and legends.
