As the 2022 – 2023 school year came to its end, headmistress Ms Andriani Roussopoulou and the educators of Yiayia’s Garden kindergarten and nursery school uploaded on the school’s website material from the educational visits to museums and archaeological sites as part of the Creative Expression Workshop for nursery-school children.
The Creative Expression Workshop enables the children to convey their experiences and unfold their potential through the arts. Special emphasis is placed on visual arts (painting, collage, mixed media, clay), as the in-house activities are combined with visits to art exhibitions, museums and archaeological sites with a view to familiarising the children with the art of adults and acquaint them with the country’s tradition, history and culture while they enjoy the entertainment and uplifting provided by one’s contact with works of art.
The J. F. Costopoulos Foundation provides support to the Efstathia J. Costopoulos Foundation on an annual basis for the needs of Yiayia’s Garden kindergarten and nursery school, which operates in Kalamata since 1994 and provides free tuition to approximately 60 children aged 3 to 5 every year; the children come mostly from families of limited means and/or with mental and social problems. The school provides model pre-school education to young children and sets the foundations on which their personality will grow. In addition to the cognitive aspect, Yiayia’s Garden gives special emphasis to child-centred teaching and applies a state-of-the-art curriculum via experiential learning, whose benefits are key to the further development of children’s skills and abilities.
