On October 26 & 27, 2020 the “Walkabout” homeless theatre troupe of Equal Society staged at Stathmos Theatre a production of Brian Friel’s play Molly Sweeney, directed by Panagiotis Dorlis. The play examines the eternal history of human desire—desire for self-realisation, forgiveness, love. During the performances, all the necessary health & safety measures for the protection of viewers and staff were observed.
The non-profit organisation Equal Society implements programmes in collaboration with state or private institutions in Greece and abroad as well as with other NGOs, with actions against social exclusion, unemployment and poverty. The members of the troupe are not professional actors but people who are dealing with homelessness.
The production was implemented with support from the J. F. Costopoulos Foundation. Instead of buying a ticket, viewers contributed food for the soup kitchen run by Equal Society.
