The J. F. Costopoulos Foundation supported the Piraeus Union of Parents, Carers & Friends of the Disabled in publishing two issues of its magazine for 2021. The magazine was started when the Union’s members expressed the need to write about their everyday reality, their concerns and relations. Through this process, members work together, share their experiences and emotions and enrich their cognitive and communication skills.
The Piraeus Union of Parents, Carers & Friends of the Disabled is an officially recognised benevolent non-profit society accredited to provide primary and secondary social care services to adults mainly diagnosed as mentally handicapped, with attendant disabilities. Founded in 1993 in order to meet the needs in the broader Piraeus area, in 1997 the Union established the “PEK/AmeA” Day Care Centre which has served over 100 adult patients and their families to this day.
